Ganga Dussehra dedicated to Goddess Ganga falls on Dashami Tithi or the tenth day of the bright half of the moon in month of Jyaistha. This is the day on which the sacred river Ganga descended on earth from heaven. So this festival is also known as Gangavataran which means the descent of the Ganga. This festival is celebrated for ten days beginning on the Amavasya and ends on the shukla dasami. Mother Ganges, which is considered as the divine river descending from heaven, is worshiped not only in India but also in the most sacred rivers in the world as a lifesaver divine river. Indias most sacred and revered river, and a holy dip in the Ganges can purify all sorts of sins. It is also considered by all Indians and famous scholars of the world.
