Gurdwaras serve as the hub of Sikh communities around the globe. In mid-1976, a large number of Sikh families in Edmonton decided to establish a Gurdwara that follows the traditions laid down by Sikh Gurus and central Sikh institutions such as Akal Takhat Sahib and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar, in the state of Punjab, India.

Soon thereafter, they registered and established an organization named Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha. The new organization has a very humble beginning. Initially, the weekly Gurdwara congregations were held at individual homes of various members.

It was in early 1985 when Gurdwara was moved to the present location, Mill Woods road south (Gurdwara Road), where it now operates a Khalsa school with enrollments over 250 students. In the past decade and half Edmonton\'s Sikh population has increased tremendously and it gives every hope for it to grow by leaps and bounds and to stay in Chardi Kala with grace of almighty Waheguru.
