इस त्यौहार को 10 वीं दिव्य ज्योति या दिव्य ज्ञान के जन्म उत्सव का प्रतीक माना जाता है। यह दसवें सिख गुरु, श्री गुरु गोबिंद सिंह जी के जन्म को याद दिलाता है। यह त्यौहार सिखों द्वारा सबसे ज्यादा मनाया जाता है।

आप बड़े पैमाने इस दिन सिख समुदाय द्वारा किये गए कार्यक्रमों को देखते है। सिखों के दसवें गुरु, गुरु गोविंद सिंह जी के सिख इतिहास में महत्वपूर्ण तिथियों पर एक सांस्कृतिक असाधारण और भव्य सामुदायिक समारोह के लिए हर साल लोग तीन बार मिलते है।

इस दिन सिख समुदाय द्वारा की जाने वाली परेड को देशभक्ति, समुदाय की भावना, साझा करने और साथ देने के रूप में चिह्नित किया जाता है, जहां भोजन श्रद्धालुओं को वितरित किया जाता हैं, और भिन्न भिन्न जगह सड़क के किनारे स्टाल लगाए जाते है कुछ लोग कैंडी, बिस्कुट, जूस, चाय, पानी, बीन्स के साथ  फेरी निकालने वाले श्रद्धालुओं की भीड़ के साथ चलते हैं। चावल, रोटी और दाल आदि  लगभग सभी प्रकार के भोजन प्रशाद वितरित किये जाते है आप बिना प्रशाद लिए दो कदम नहीं चल सकते। लेकिन यह सिर्फ भोजन नहीं है प्रशाद है जिसका एक कण भी हमें व्यर्थ नहीं छोड़ना चाहिए।

गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब के भजन गाते हुए लोग हजारों की संख्या में आगे बढ़ते हैं, कुछ लोग ध्वनि-विस्तारक (माइक्रोफोन) पर सिख नायकों के गौरवशाली अतीत और शहादत के बारे में बताते हैं, यदि आप सिख हैं, तो आप गर्व और दिल से अपनी छाती की सूजन महसूस कर सकते हैं। विनम्रता के साथ। सैन्य विश्वास की भावना को चिह्नित करने के लिए, सभी उम्र के युवा छात्रों और दोनों लिंग के व्यक्ति कला रूप में अपने मार्शल कौशल का प्रदर्शन करते हैं। यह सिख धर्म के 'संत-सिपाही’ अर्थात संत और योद्धा, विचारधारा की एक आदर्श परिणति थी। पूरी योजना का हिस्सा बनने के लिए आपको बस इतना करना होगा कि आप सिर को ढंके, सभी के साथ मिलकर निराकार ईश्वर को महसूस करें। उनके आसपास होने का एहसास यह सुनिश्चित करेगा कि आप मुस्कुराते हुए विनम्रता के साथ कभी-कभी "वाहेगुरु जी" के नाम को बोलोगे या नहीं या हमेशा आक्रामकता या जल्दबाज़ी में रहेगें।
