Parshuram Jayanti~

parshuram jayanti

The sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Parshurama (literally, an ax with Rama) incarnated on earth to save it from the tyranny of the Kshatriyas. This day is celebrated as Parshuram Jayanti in most parts of the country.

The celebration of Parshurama Jayanti is celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha, the month of Vaishakh. A fast is observed on this day to get a son and it is called Parshu Ram Dwadashi. As Varaha Purana has indicated that by observing a fast on this day, the devotees enjoys staying in the Brahmaloka and is reborn to become a great king.

Akshaya Tritiya is another name for Lord Parshuram's birthday. On this day, by doing good deeds one gets good virtues, for this there is a strong belief that it is believed that Akshaya Tritiya is the beginning of Treta Yuga.

Hindus constitute a major part of the population in India. With the revival of Hinduism after the medieval period, the birth day of Parashurama regained its importance. Except fasting, processions and satsang are arranged in most towns in northern India.

The reason for the name Parashuram

Parshuram's birth name is believed to be Rama and Rambhadra, he is also known by the names Bhargava, Bhrigupati, Jamadagni, Bhriguvanshi etc. It is believed that for the destruction of sinners, he did hard penance of Lord Shiva and received blessings from him and that too the blessing of mastery in the art of war. He also received many unique and powerful weapons from Lord Shiva, one of them being the urn of Lord Shiva, also known as Farsa or Axe. He is very dear to them and always kept them together. He was called Parshurama because of wearing a Parshu.

Amazing Story of Lord Parshurama:

One day, his father, Jamadagni, has a fight with his wife, Renuka. His father got angry at his wife for something. He lost his control in anger and ordered his son, Parshurama, to kill his mother. Although Parshuram was hesitant, he always considered his parents' command paramount, so he killed his mother. After that Parshurama exerted all his power to get and bring back his mother's life and eventually revived his mother and thus proved to be the true son of his parents.

Another story states that one day Parshurama was going to meet Lord Shiva. But Shiva had ordered his son Ganesh to let him stay in solitude for some time. When Parashurama reached there, he was stopped by Lord Shiva's son Ganesh. Parshurama became enraged and was angry that he was about to attack Lord Ganesha with his weapon before Ganesh realized that the weapon with which Parshurama was attacking was given as a gift by Lord Shiva and gave his weapon Decided not to insult weapons by beating against them. So, Parshurama's weapon struck a tooth of Lord Ganesha. Due to this, a small part of Lord Ganesha's tooth broke.

Goddess Parvati listened to Lord Ganesha's pain. Due to his anger, she transformed himself into Shakti and decided to kill Parshurama. But then Lord Shiva asked Goddess Shakti not to kill Parshurama because he considers Parshurama as his son. Parshurama apologized to Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha and vowed never to repeat it.

Lord Parshuram has always been worshiped by the people for his great valor and fighting skills.
