पोन्नमबालमेडु में त्रावणकोर देवसोम बोर्ड और टिम्बरलैंड विभाजन की मदद से लोगो को केरल सरकार द्वारा मदद, पैतृक परिवारों द्वारा प्रशिक्षण आदि दिया जाता है, जो गरीबी रेखा के सबसे निचले पायदान पर है।
मकरज्योति एक ऐसा तारा है जिसका लगातार 14 जनवरी को मकर संक्रांति पर लोगो द्वारा पूजन व अर्चन किया जाता है। यह कैनीस मुख्य निकाय में स्थित स्टार सीरियस नाम से प्रसिद्द है।
पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार, भगवान अयप्पा और शनि के अपने फैसले की अवधि के दौरान शनि द्वारा नकारात्मक प्रभावों के बारे में एक मौखिक द्वंद्व था। अय्यप्पा को शनि के प्रभाव से अपने भक्तो को आत्मसात करने की आवश्यकता थी और कहा कि उनके भक्तों को शनि के समय की चुनौतियों से दूर रहने के लिए एक बार 41 दिनों के अत्यधिक गंभीर समय का अनुभव करना चाहिए। अय्यप्पा की इस असाधारण तीव्रता के कारण, उन्हें एक पवित्र लौ सेवा में बुलाने के साथ-साथ आकाशीय व्यवस्था के नकारात्मक प्रभाव को कम किया जा सकता है:
