हिंदू कैलेंडर के अनुसार, भाई दूज या यम द्वितीया को कार्तिक मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की द्वितीया तिथि को मनाया जाता है। यह अपने भाई के प्रति बहनों के विश्वास और प्रेम का पर्व है। राखी के उपरान्त, यह वर्ष का एक और त्यौहार है जिसमें बहनों और भाइयों के प्यार और बंधन को चिन्हित किया गया है।
पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार, यमुना ने अपने भाई यमराज की लंबी उम्र के लिए व्रत रखा। उस दिन के बाद से, भाई-बहनों के बीच आदर और प्रेम की भावना का प्रतिनिधित्व करने के लिए भाई दूज मनाया जाता है। बहनें अपने भाइयों की दीर्घायु और समृद्धि के लिए भगवान् से प्राथर्ना करती हैं।
भाई दूज को कई राज्यों में यम द्वितीया के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। यह आस्था और विश्वास का त्यौहार है। इसमें बहन के हाथों भाई को टिका लगाने की परंपरा है।
भाई दूज पर्व का महत्व :
दिवाली, जो की रोशनी का पांच दिवसीय उत्सव है। दिवाली का पांचवा या अंतिम दिन दूज यानि द्वितीया तिथि का होता है, जिसे भाई दूज के नाम से जाना जाता है। भाई दूज अमावस्या के बाद दूसरे दिन पड़ता है, और यह एक बहन का भाई के लंबे जीवन के लिए प्रार्थना करने का दिन है।
यह पर्व बहनों और भाइयों के बीच स्नेह का प्रतीक है, और दोनों के बीच देखभाल और प्यार के बंधन को और अधिक मजबूत करने के लिए मनाया जाता है। इस पर्व के जरिये, बहनें अपने भाइयों को शुभ तिलक या उनके माथे पर सिंदूर का निशान लगाती हैं व् बदले में, भाई अपनी बहनों को उपहार देते हैं।
भाई दूज पर्व का इतिहास :
पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार यमराज जो कि मृत्यु के देवता अपनी बहन यामी के यहां इस विशिष्ट दिन पर गए थे। उन्होंने उनके माथे पर तिलक लगाया, उनका आदर सत्कार किया और विशिष्ट व्यंजनों के साथ उनकी आव- भगत की। आम तौर पर, वे व्यंजनों का सेवन करते, बात करते और हँसते मुस्कुराते थे। फिर चलते समय यमराज ने उसे स्नेह के उपहार स्वरुप एक विशिष्ट आशीर्वाद प्रदान किया और बदले में यमुना ने भी उनको एक अति सुंदर आकृति भेंट की, जो उसने अपने हाथों से बनाई थी। यही कारण है कि भाई दूज के इस दिन को यम द्वितीया के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।
भाई दूज के अनुष्ठान :
देश के अधिंकांश हिस्सों में भाई दूज के त्यौहार का अनुष्ठान किया जाता है। इस दिन किये जाने वाले अनुष्ठान निम्नलिखित है :-
भाऊ बी या भाई दूज के अवसर पर, यदि बहन की शादी पहले से हो रखी होती है, तो भाई इस दिन अपनी बहनों के घर जाते हैं। बहन अपने भाई के लिए आरती करती हैं और उनके माथे पर टीका लगाती हैं।जो बहने अपने भाइयों से दूर हैं या जिनके भाई नहीं हैं, तो वे भाई टीका के त्यौहार पर चंद्रमा को अपने भाई स्वरुप पूजते हैं। इसके पश्चात, भाइयों को उनकी बहनों द्वारा बनाया गया विशेष भोजन दिया जाता है। इसके साथ ही भगवान यम और चित्रगुप्त (मनुष्यों के अच्छे और बुरे कर्मों का रिकॉर्ड रखने वाले) की पूजा की जाती है।
इस दिन यमुना नदी में स्नान करना बहुत पवित्र और शुभ माना जाता है। इसलिए, इस भाई दूज पर, इन अनुष्ठानों का पालन करें और अपने भाई के लंबे और खुशहाल जीवन के लिए प्रार्थना करें।

History of Bhai Dooj Festival :
According to mythological beliefs, Yamraj, the god of death, visited his sister Yami on this specific day. They put tilak on their foreheads, honored them and welcomed them with special dishes. Generally, they smiled while eating, talking and laughing. While going, Yamraj offered her a special blessing as a gift of affection and in return, Yami also presented her with a very beautiful figure, which she had made with her own hands. This is the reason that this day of Bhai Dooj is also known as Yama Dwitiya.

The festival of Bhai Dooj is performed in most parts of the country. Following are the rituals performed on this day: -
On the occasion of Bhau Bi or Bhai Dooj, if the sister is already married, the brothers go to their sisters' house on this day. The sister performs aarti for her brother and puts a vaccine on his forehead. Those who are away from their brothers or who do not have brothers, they worship the moon as their brother on the festival of Brother Tika. After this, the brothers are given a special meal prepared by their sisters. Along with this, Lord Yama and Chitragupta (keeping a record of good and bad deeds of human beings) are worshiped.
Taking a bath in the Yamuna river on this day is considered very holy and auspicious. Therefore, on this Bhai Dooj, follow these rituals and pray for the long and happy life of your brother.
