Cheti Chand in the Year 2024 will be Celebrated on Tuesday, 09th April 2024
The birthday of Water god (Varun Devta) Sai Uderolal or Jhulelal is called Cheti Chand and this day also corresponds to Guru Nanak’s birthday. Varun Dev as Sai Uderolal or Jhulelal has incarnated to protect Sindhis.
Cheti Chand is observed on the first day of the Sindhi Chet month (March – April) or Chaitra month in the Hindu calendar; hence called CHET-I-CHAND. Cheti Chand is the beginning of Sindhi New Year. Businessmen take the day to start new account books.
Cheti Chand :
This most popular Sindhi festival is celebrated on a day during the waxing phase of the moon of the Chet month.
The day holds importance that on this day Varun Dev appeared as Uderolal on the first day of Chet month to save Sindhis from the dictatorship of a ruler who wanted to destroy the Sindhi culture and Hinduism.
The main festival starts with the worship of Jhulelal and Bahrani. Men perform the folk dance, Chej on Sindhi music before Jhulelal.
All the organizations or institutions dedicated to Sindhis celebrate this festival with gaiety and pomp. Aarti of the Sea God of the Sindhis, Jhoolelal Sain is done. The day offers the advantage of worshipping water – the elixir of life.
Baharana Sahib :
Baharana Sahib Consists of Jyot, Sugar Candy, Phota, Fruits, Akha. Behind is a Bronze Pot and a Coconut in it, covered with Cloth, Flowers, Leaves, and Idol of God Jhulelal. On this day Baharana Sahib is taken to nearby River or Lake.

जल देवता (वरुण देवता), साईं उदेरलाल या झूलेलाल के जन्मदिन को चेती चंद कहा जाता है। यह दिन गुरु नानक देव जी के जन्मदिवस् को भी प्रस्तुत करता है। वरुण देव ने साईं उदेरोलाल या झूलेलाल के रूप में सिंधियों की रक्षा के लिए अवतार लिया था।
हिंदू कैलेंडर में चैत्र मास या सिंधी चेत महीने (मार्च - अप्रैल) के पहले दिन चेती चंद का त्यौहार मनाया जाता है। इसलिए इस पर्व को चेती चंद कहा जाता है। चेती चंद सिंधी नव वर्ष की शुरुआत भी है। व्यवसायी इसी दिन नई खाता बही शुरू करने के लिए निकालते हैं।
चेती चंद :
यह सबसे लोकप्रिय सिंधी त्योहार चेत महीने के शुक्ल पक्ष की प्रथम तिथि (पहले दिन) को मनाया जाता है। यह दिन महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि इस चेत महीने के पहले दिन वरुण देव सिंध के शासक की तानाशाही से सिंधियों को बचाने के लिए उदेरोलाल के रूप में प्रकट हुए, वह दुष्ट शासक सिंधी संस्कृति और हिंदू धर्म को नष्ट करना चाहता था।
मुख्य त्योहार झूलेलाल और बहराणी की पूजा के साथ शुरू होता है। पुरुष भक्त झूलेलाल की पूजा से पहले सिंधी संगीत पर लोक नृत्य, चेज करते हैं।
सिंधियों को समर्पित सभी संगठन या संस्थान इस त्योहार को उल्लास और धूमधाम से मनाते हैं। सिंधियों के सागर भगवान की आरती, झूलेलाल साईं की आरती इस दिन की जाती है। इस दिन जल की पूजा का विशेष लाभ मिलता है - जिसे जीवन का अमृत कहा जाता है।
बहराणा साहिब :
बहराणा साहिब ज्योत, गुड़, फोटा, फल, आखा से मिलकर बनता है। जिसके पीछे एक कांसे का बर्तन और एक नारियल रखा जाता है, जो कपड़े, फूल, पत्तियों से ढका जाता है तथा भगवान झूलेलाल की मूर्ति के साथ रखा जाता है। इस दिन बहराणा साहिब को पास की नदी या झील में ले जाया जाता है।
